...... It's Gonna Feel Real Good, Gonna Make A Difference Gonna Make It Right!!!
MOTIVATION.... what drives you?
I am currently studying for my Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies. I work in a school as a teaching assistant and have done for a year or so now. Prior to that I worked at a nursery for 2 years after gaining my Diploma in Childcare and Education. Anyway enough with the CV!!
In work I've always seen myself as someone who fades in to the background, usually keep myself to myself, never very confident to speak out and voice my opinions. After a chat with my boyfriend about my lack of confidence and how I view things etc, he bought me a book. This book is called The Tools by Phil Stutz and Barry Michels. The book is about unlocking your potential, finding courage, inspiration, success and happiness. So far I am only 28 pages in to this book, I often find it hard to make time to sit down and read unless I really get in to a book. The beginning of this book was an interesting read but it hasn't necessarily grabed me fully... yet! The strange thing is I've already changed.
Without reading the 'tools' it seems it's just happened. Whether its because I spoke about my confidence issue, read 28 pages of this book, or gained confidence from my course. I have no idea. I now find myself thinking of ways to improve my practice, coming up with strategies to help within the classroom, sharing my ideas with others. I am very passionate about working with children and I want to make a difference in education. Some peoples attitudes to new ideas or making things better seem to be pretty poor. Its easy to become a stagnant worker and I definitely have trouble trying to convince a select through that we need to change. Others jump on board and will to try to look at a situation differently or explore the new ideas, which is fantastic.
I feel at work today that I made a change, a small one, but a change nonetheless and even though its only just been implemented I'm already pleased with the results. There's no better feeling than to know you've done you job when a child comes to you and says "I've had a really good day today Miss" It almost brought a tear to my eye that from me speaking out and sharing ideas I'd managed to create something that in the end resulted in the child to having a good day. Children often find school boring or a chore. I don't blame them in all honesty from what I've seen it is. My goal in life is to change this. Learning should be enjoyable and they should both go together hand in hand.
So my message to you? If you want something, DO IT! Make that change, don't be scared, at least you can say 'I tried, I gave it my best shot'. Even if it doesn't quite work... try again. Don't be afraid to speak out and fight for what you believe in! Create that passion and have that motivation to make a difference.
This has made me feel really inspired!
